India Emerges as World's Most Trusted Investment Destination: Piyush Goyal at Citi India Conference 2026 [04/06/2026]

Mumbai: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal on June 4, 2026 declared that India has emerged as the world's most trusted investment destination. He was addressing global investors at the Citi India Conference 2026 via video conference.

Key Highlights from Minister's Address

1. Fastest Growing Economy: India is recognized as the world's fastest-growing economy. Goyal expressed confidence that India will maintain this position for the next two decades.

2. Strong Global Confidence: Recent engagements with investors in Canada and USA showed massive interest. India sent its largest business delegation ever to Canada. Proposed India-Canada FTA received positive response from pension funds and institutional investors.

3. Trade Agreements Expansion: India signed 9 Free Trade Agreements in last 3.5 years covering 38 developed economies. Oman FTA came into effect June 1, 2026. 2-3 more substantive FTAs expected in next 6 months.

Major Reforms Announced

Jan Vishwas Act 2.0: Passed in April 2026. Nearly 1,000 offences decriminalized across central laws where there was no intent to cheat or threat to public safety.

Bhavya Scheme: New scheme with USD 3.5 billion outlay to develop 100 industrial parks across India. Will provide plug-and-play infrastructure, factory-ready facilities, worker housing, and digital infrastructure for MSMEs.

Infrastructure & Technology Push

1. Infrastructure: USD 130 billion investment in ports, highways, roads, and airports. Port and airport capacity doubled in last 10 years.

2. Renewable Energy: Plans to double capacity from 250 GW to 500 GW in next 5 years. Over 50% of power grid already from renewables.

3. Semiconductors: Tata and ASML setting up India's first capital equipment manufacturing facility for semiconductor industry.

4. Data Centres: Income tax exemption for data centres serving global markets until 2047 - target year for Viksit Bharat with USD 30 trillion economy.

Why Investors Trust India

Goyal cited examples of Hyundai and JCB that entered India with limited infrastructure and built massive value. He emphasized India's advantages: democracy, rule of law, decisive leadership, 1.4 billion consumer market, protected IP, and secure data ecosystem.
