April 2026, a severe heat wave is expected to sweep across large parts of India, with temperatures exceeding 40° Celsius (104° Fahrenheit) at the start of the season, particularly affecting temporary settlements, slums, and urban areas in northern, central, and western India. Cities like Nagpur, Akola and Amravati are experiencing intense heatwaves .Temperatures in areas like Una and  Nuh have crossed 40-45° Celsius. Residents of slums and makeshift tent settlements are facing intense heatwaves. Many are being forced to seek shelter in the shade as temperatures in some areas reach nearly 50° Celsius due to high humidity. The minimum temperature has also increased, resulting in no significant relief at night and some areas are reported to be experiencing night temperatures above 25°C-30°C.
