SIP closure ratio reaches 101% this month

  According to recent statistics from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), March 2026 marked the first instance in the last 11 months where the number of closed or expired SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans) exceeded the number of newly registered SIP. In March, approximately 53.38 lakh SIPs were either closed or reached maturity, whereas 52.82 lakh new SIPs were registered. During this month, the SIP closure ratio reached 101%. This implies that for every 100 new SIPs registered, 101 SIPs were closed. In February, this ratio stood at 75.62%. Due to geopolitical instability and uncertainties in the international markets, the Nifty 50 index declined by approximately 11.3% in March. With one-year returns turning negative, many new or inexperienced investors panicked and halted their investments.
