October 2026 Ration Update: Extra 2 Kg Free Rice for All NFSA Card Holders in India
Big relief for crores of ration card holders across India. The Central Government has announced that from October 1, 2026, every eligible family under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will receive an additional 2 kilograms of free rice every month. This decision comes just before the Durga Puja and Diwali festive season. The move aims to provide extra food security to poor and middle-class families during a time when expenses usually increase. Until now, beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) were receiving 5 kg of free food grains per person per month. After this update, the quantity will increase to 7 kg per person per month. For a family of 4, this means 28 kg of free rice and wheat every month instead of 20 kg. Who Will Get This Extra 2 Kg Rice?
