He famously captained India to their first-ever Cricket World Cup victory in 1983 , a historic achievement that helped transform the team into a competitive international force. Beyond his captaincy, Dev was a prolific batsman and bowler , becoming the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket and was awarded India's highest civilian honors, the Padma Shri and Padma B India's greatest female batter with most runs in the game, and the only Indian female captain to have led the side to two 50-over World Cup finals. ESPN ranked her as one of the greatest female cricketers of all time. She has received several national and international awards, including the Wisden Leading Woman Cricketer in the World in 2017 , Arjuna Award in 2003 , the Padma Shri in 2015 , and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 2021 .

Speaking about what it takes to perform at the elite level, Bednarek underlined the importance of mindset over everything else. “You can be physically prepared and extremely talented, but if you’re not mentally strong on race day, it doesn’t matter. Sprinting is nearly 90 per cent mental discipline, responsibility, belief and recovery are key to performing consistently at the top level,” he said.
