Kolkata, 4 June 2026: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met CM Suvendu Adhikari and finalized a Rs 19,209 crore maritime investment plan for West Bengal till 2031. Cargo throughput at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port rose to 70.87 MMTPA.

Key Projects:

1. Balagarh Multimodal Hub: New logistics center near Hooghly

2. Shipbuilding Upgrades: Modernization for job creation

3. Port Expansion: More berths at Kolkata & Haldia

India’s Seafood Exports Hit All-Time High ₹73,890 Crore in FY 2025-26India has achieved a historic milestone in marine trade. According to data released by Press Information Bureau, Government of India, the country exported a record 19,72,018 metric tonnes of seafood worth ₹73,890.46 crore, equal to US $8.46 billion in the financial year 2025-26.This is the highest ever export value recorded by India’s seafood sector. The achievement highlights the growth of India’s fisheries industry and strong global demand for Indian marine products.Key Highlights from PIB Report:1. Frozen Shrimp Leads: Frozen shrimp remained the star product, earning ₹49,037 crore for India. The USA continued as the biggest buyer of Indian shrimp, showing strong trade relations between the two countries.2. China Top by Volume: While USA bought the most value, China imported the highest volume at 4,90,369 metric tonnes. China’s demand for Indian seafood continues to grow year after year.3. Top Export Ports: Three major ports handled most of the cargo. Visakhapatnam Port, JNPT Mumbai and Cochin Port emerged as the top 3 ports for seafood exports in FY 2025-26.The record export is good news for fishermen, coastal communities and exporters across India. Following a long-standing dispute, the West Bengal government has taken a significant step toward clearing the outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) dues of state government employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an announcement regarding this matter on Sunday afternoon, prior to the declaration of the election schedule in the state. Notably, even before her announcement, the Finance Department had issued several notifications and memoranda on March 13, stating that the DA arrears—accrued between April 2008 and December 2019—would be cleared in a phased manner.
