Kolkata, 4 June 2026: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met CM Suvendu Adhikari and finalized a Rs 19,209 crore maritime investment plan for West Bengal till 2031. Cargo throughput at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port rose to 70.87 MMTPA.

India’s Seafood Exports Hit All-Time High ₹73,890 Crore in FY 2025-26India has achieved a historic milestone in marine trade. According to data released by Press Information Bureau, Government of India, the country exported a record 19,72,018 metric tonnes of seafood worth ₹73,890.46 crore, equal to US $8.46 billion in the financial year 2025-26.This is the highest ever export value recorded by India’s seafood sector. The achievement highlights the growth of India’s fisheries industry and strong global demand for Indian marine products.Key Highlights from PIB Report:1. Frozen Shrimp Leads: Frozen shrimp remained the star product, earning ₹49,037 crore for India. The USA continued as the biggest buyer of Indian shrimp, showing strong trade relations between the two countries.2. China Top by Volume: While USA bought the most value, China imported the highest volume at 4,90,369 metric tonnes. China’s demand for Indian seafood continues to grow year after year.3. Top Export Ports: Three major ports handled most of the cargo. Visakhapatnam Port, JNPT Mumbai and Cochin Port emerged as the top 3 ports for seafood exports in FY 2025-26.The record export is good news for fishermen, coastal communities and exporters across India.
