Trump Worries as Dollar's Value Fluctuates

Sanchita chatterjee: As of May 5, 2026, 1 US Dollar (USD) is trading at approximately 95.36 against the Indian Rupee (INR) and approximately 120.10 against the Bangladeshi Taka (BDT). Due to political shifts, an increase in remittances, and a decline in *Hundi* (informal money transfer) activities, the price of the dollar in Bangladesh has dropped slightly compared to previous levels; conversely, the value of the dollar in the international market remains somewhat volatile.

According to data from Bangladesh Bank, the price of the dollar has declined following a rise in remittances of over 26 percent.

With the reduction in illicit money laundering, the supply of dollars through formal banking channels has increased; meanwhile, the Dollar Index (DXY) has strengthened slightly in the global market during the month of May.
