Free travel for women on government buses will be introduced.

 Reported by Sanchita chatterjee Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP has pledged in its election manifesto (Sankalp Patra) that, if elected to power in West Bengal, it will introduce free travel facilities for women on all state-run buses.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that, should the BJP government come to power, this service could become effective starting June 1st.

This initiative has been designed with the twin objectives of empowering women and reducing commuting costs .Free travel facilities for women on government buses are already in place in several other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab.
