Tutu Bose Passes Away: Former Kolkata Mayor & Congress Leader Dies at 80

Sanchita chatterjee Kolkata, May 13, 2026 — Former Kolkata Mayor and veteran Congress leader Tutu Bose passed away on Sunday at the age of 80 after a prolongeillness.

Bose, who served as the Former municipal worker of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in the 1990s, was a prominent face of the Congress party in West Bengal politics for over three decades.Former municipal worker.


Political Career & Contributions

Tutu Bose was elected as the Former municipal worker of Kolkata in 1995 and served until 2000. During his tenure, he focused on urban infrastructure development and improving civic amenities in central Kolkata.


He was also a three-time MLA from the Beleghata Assembly constituency and played a key role in Congress’s organizational structure in North Kolkata during the 1990s and early 2000s.


Party leaders described him as a “grassroots leader who was accessible to the common people.” Several Congress and TMC leaders have expressed condolences on his demise.


Condolences Pour In

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, “Saddened by the passing of former Mayor Tutu Bose. His contribution to Kolkata’s civic development will be remembered.”


TMC and BJP leaders also condoled his death, highlighting that despite political differences, Bose was respected across party lines for his commitment to public service.


Final Rites

Family sources said the last rites will be performed at Keoratala crematorium on Monday afternoon. The body will be kept at the Congress Bhavan in Kolkata for public tribute between 10 AM to 12 PM.
