New Delhi, May 16, 2026 — The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced June 21, 2026 as the date for NEET UG 2026 re-examination following the paper leak controversy that affected thousands of aspirants.
Key Updates For Students
Re-Exam Date: June 21, 2026 — NTA confirmed the exam will be held in a single shift across India.
City Preference Update: Candidates can now update their first and second exam city preferences from today on the official NTA website neet.nta.nic.in. The window will remain open for 5 days.
Admit Card: Revised admit cards will be released 7 days before the exam date.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the first high-level review meeting on the re-exam and said the government’s priority is to conduct it in a “completely safe, transparent and credible manner”.
Big Change From 2027
In a major reform, Pradhan also announced that NEET will shift to a fully Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from 2027. This is aimed at reducing paper leak risks and making the process more secure.
NTA is expected to conduct mock CBT sessions for students from late 2026 to help them adapt to the new format.
What Happened Earlier
The original NEET UG 2026 exam on May 4 faced multiple allegations of paper leaks in Rajasthan and Bihar. Supreme Court directed NTA to conduct a re-exam for affected candidates while maintaining the validity of the original exam for others.
