In a major relief for ration card holders across West Bengal, the deadline for mandatory e-KYC verification has been extended to 30th June 2026, according to reports.
Citizens who have not yet completed the biometric authentication process now have time till 30th June 2026 to update their details. Officials have indicated that failure to complete e-KYC before the new cut-off date may result in suspension of monthly ration benefits from July 2026 onwards.
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
The earlier deadline was 31st May 2026. However, reports citing Food Department data show that a significant number of beneficiaries, especially from rural districts like Purulia, Bankura, and Cooch Behar, were unable to finish the process due to network issues and Aadhaar-mobile linking problems. To ensure that families are not deprived of food grains due to technical reasons, the last date was pushed by one month.
What Happens If 30th June 2026 Is Missed?
According to media reports, officials have stated that if a ration card’s e-KYC status shows “Pending” after 30/06/2026, the name may be temporarily deactivated from the Public Distribution System (PDS). This means beneficiaries may not receive rice, wheat, or other subsidized items until verification is done. Reactivation can take 15-30 days and may require a physical visit to the Food Inspector’s office.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Check Ration Card e-KYC Status Online
Beneficiaries can check status from mobile:
Step 1: Visit the official website: https://food.wb.gov.in
Step 2: Look for the tab “Ration Card e-KYC Status” and click it.
Step 3: Enter the 10-digit Ration Card Number and Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Step 4: Enter the 6-digit OTP and hit “Submit”.
Step 5: The current status will appear. If it shows “e-KYC Done / Verified” in green, no further action is needed. If it shows “Pending” in red, a dealer visit for biometric is required.
Documents Needed for Biometric e-KYC
The e-KYC process is Aadhaar-based and requires physical presence for fingerprint scanning. These are generally needed: Original Ration Card, Aadhaar Card of all family members listed, Aadhaar-linked Mobile Number for OTP.
Where Can e-KYC Be Completed? It’s 100% Free
1. Nearest Fair Price Shop: Dealers have biometric e-POS machines.
2. Designated e-KYC Kendras: List available on food.wb.gov.in.
3. 3. Duare Ration Camps: Beneficiaries may complete e-KYC at Duare ration camps if such camps are being organized in their area, as per official announcements.
Important Note: The government has not appointed any agent or middleman. No fees should be paid. For complaints, toll-free numbers 1967 or 1800-345-5505 are available.
Why Is e-KYC Being Done?
The Centre and State governments are linking welfare schemes with Aadhaar to prevent leakage. e-KYC helps ensure only genuine beneficiaries get subsidized food and enables “One Nation One Ration Card” portability.
Final Checklist Before 30 June 2026
1. Check status online.
2. If “Pending”, visit dealer well before the deadline.
3. Carry all family members’ Aadhaar cards.
4. Keep a photo of the “e-KYC Done” screen for records.
According to department sources quoted in local media, this is likely the final extension. After 30/06/2026, action may be taken on non-verified cards.
