Daughter of Mason Ritu Mondal Wins Double Gold at World Yogasana 2026
Twenty-year-old Ritu Mondal from Hooghly, West Bengal has made India proud by winning two gold medals at the inaugural World Yogasana Championships 2026 held in Ahmedabad. Daughter of a mason, Ritu’s journey from a small village to the world stage is a story of hard work and determination.
Ritu credits her family for constant support despite financial difficulties. Her father works as a mason, and her elder brother Gautam, a former state-level Yogasana athlete, now guides her training. After completing a physiotherapy course, Gautam helps Ritu improve daily. He never lets her become complacent, always saying “Well done, but there is still room for improvement.”
Before this world achievement, Ritu won bronze medals at Khelo India Youth Games Chennai and Khelo India University Games Assam. These wins gave her confidence to compete internationally.
In Ahmedabad, Ritu faced top athletes from around the world. Her performance combined balance, flexibility, strength and precision. She became the first Indian athlete to win two gold medals at the World Yogasana Championships. Her parents and brother were present to witness her celebrate with the Indian flag.
Ritu says her biggest dream is to see Yogasana in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics. Winning an Olympic medal for India remains her ultimate goal.
She also thanks Galgotias University for a monthly scholarship of ₹13,000. The support allows her to focus on training without burdening her family. “Financial support is very important for athletes,” Ritu said.
