10kg Turtles Seized from Dunar Express at Panagarh Station, 1 Arrested

Panagarh, Kanksa: Panic spread at Panagarh station on Tuesday morning after two large turtles were recovered from the Dunar Express. Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested one person in connection with the incident.

According to reports, the Dunar Express halted at platform number 3 of Panagarh station on Tuesday morning. Passengers noticed a bag placed under a seat moving repeatedly, which raised suspicion. Many initially feared that a child might be trafficked inside the bag.

The matter was immediately reported to RPF personnel present at the station. On checking, RPF officers opened the bag and found two large turtles inside. The total weight of both turtles was estimated to be around 10 kg.

RPF arrested an elderly man from the spot. Later, the rescued turtles were handed over to the Range Officer of Panagarh Forest Department.

Accused: Janna, 62, resident of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. He reportedly said the turtles were being taken to Kolkata.

Forest department officials are currently interrogating the accused to find out if anyone else is involved in this illegal wildlife trafficking.
