Panic Spread at PANAGARH Station: 2 Large Turtles Recovered from DUNAR Express [07/06/2026] PANAGARH: Panic spread at PANAGARH Railway Station on Tuesday morning, June 7, 2026, after Railway Protection Force RPF recovered two large turtles from the DUNAR Express. One person has been arrested in connection with the illegal wildlife trafficking attempt .According to reports, the DUNAR Express halted at platform number 3 of PANAGARH station early Tuesday morning. Passengers sitting inside the coach noticed a bag placed under a seat moving repeatedly. This raised immediate suspicion among the Travelers. Many initially feared that a child might be trafficked inside the bag, leading to panic and chaos inside the Train. The matter was immediately reported to RPF personnel present at the station. Acting swiftly, RPF officers rushed to the spot and opened the suspicious bag for inspection. To everyone’s shock, they found two large live turtles inside instead of a child. The total weight of both turtles was estimated to be around 10 kilograms. The discovery ended the child trafficking fears but revealed a case of wildlife smuggling. RPF arrested an elderly man from the spot. The accused has been identified as Janna, aged 62 years, resident of AMETHI , Uttar Pradesh. During preliminary interrogation, he reportedly told RPF officers that the turtles were being taken to Kolkata for illegal sale. Later, the rescued turtles were handed over to the Range Officer of PANAGARH Forest Department for care and rehabilitation. Forest department officials have started an investigation to determine if anyone else is involved in this illegal wildlife trafficking network. Forest officials confirmed that smuggling of turtles is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. The accused may face up to 7 years imprisonment if found guilty.
