Sujit Bose Arrested by ED in Municipality Recruitment Scam | May 11, 2026
Sanchita chatterjee On May 11, 2026, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose in connection with the South Dum Dum municipality recruitment scam and money laundering case.
In a major political development in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested former TMC minister Sujit Bose on the evening of May 11, 2026. The arrest is linked to an alleged recruitment scam and money laundering case involving the South Dum Municipality.
What Are the Allegations Against Sujit Bose?
According to the ED, Sujit Bose illegally recommended 150 candidates for various posts in the South Dum Municipality in exchange for financial benefits.
The agency claims it has traced direct proceeds of crime in the form of flats acquired by Bose and substantial cash deposits in bank accounts under his control. These have been flagged as “proceeds of crime” under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
How the Arrest Unfolded
Bose arrived at the ED’s CGO Complex office in Salt Lake around 10:30 AM on May 11, accompanied by his son Samudra Bose. After nearly 10 hours of questioning, he was taken into custody in the evening for “non-cooperation and discrepancies” in his statements.
He is expected to be produced before the Special PMLA Court in Kolkata on the morning of May 12.
The Central Figure: Ayan Sil
The ED’s investigation points to Ayan Sil, director of M/s. ABS Infozon Pvt Ltd, as the key mastermind behind the scam.
Investigators allege that Ayan Sil was consistently awarded contracts for printing question papers, designing OMR sheets, and preparing merit lists for multiple municipalities including Kanchrapara, New Barrackpore, and South Dum. He allegedly manipulated OMR sheets to facilitate illegal appointments of unqualified candidates in return for money.
The ED has already filed a prosecution complaint against Ayan Sil in the Special PMLA Court.
Previous Raids and Summons
This is not the first time Sujit Bose has been under the ED scanner. The agency had earlier conducted two search operations at properties owned by Bose and his son, recovering several incriminating documents.
During the West Bengal Assembly elections, Bose received multiple ED summons, including one on April 6. He had then approached the Calcutta High Court seeking exemption, citing election campaign commitments. After the elections, he appeared before ED investigators on May 1.
Political Implications
Bose’s arrest comes as a significant blow to the TMC, especially after the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
Sources indicate that the financial trail of the scam may lead to other senior political figures. Meanwhile, another former minister, Rathin Ghosh, skipped his ED appearance again on the same day in connection with the same case.
