Oil crunch. worldwide, fuel supply normal in Bengal: No need to panic buy, says IndianOil
Kolkata, May 19, 2026 - Despite uncertainty over crude oil in the global market, there is no shortage of petrol, diesel and cooking gas supply in West Bengal. On Tuesday, IndianOil authorities made it clear through the Press Information Bureau that fuel supply across the state is completely normal and without restrictions.
What oil companies are saying
IndianOil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum — these three state-owned companies have jointly said that there is sufficient stock of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders. Starting from terminals, depots, bottling plants to every petrol pump, fuel is reaching on time. There is no rationing or limit.
The notification said, "Supply is being maintained without any restrictions in compliance with the prescribed safety and operational rules." That is, there is no obstacle to filling a full tank of oil in a car or booking 2 gas cylinders at once.
Why this notification had to be issued
In the last few weeks, the price of crude oil in the international market has been fluctuating due to the situation in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In many places, people are panicking and lining up at petrol pumps fearing that this will affect India as well. Rumors are spreading that fuel will decrease.
This step by the Center is to stop those rumors. It was informed through PIB that the supply chain is completely stable. Stock is being refilled continuously. Domestic LPG cylinder delivery is also going on at a normal pace across the state.
What are the arrangements for logistics
The three oil companies are now coordinating logistics, stock positioning and distribution daily. It is being monitored in real time to ensure that there is no shortage anywhere.
From the terminals in Kolkata, Haldia, Bajbaj to the Siliguri depot in North Bengal — there is sufficient stock everywhere. The bottling plants are running at full capacity. As a result, there is no scope for black marketing of gas.
What can common people do
Don't buy in panic: Panic buying creates an artificial crisis. You need 10 liters, you fill up 50 liters — this will cause problems for others.
Don't listen to rumors: Don't believe the WhatsApp forward or the neighborhood shop that says "petrol will be closed from tomorrow".
See official sources: Keep an eye on the websites of IndianOil, BPCL, HPCL, Twitter handles or PIB's website. You will get the real updates there.
Why is it important for Bengal
60% of West Bengal's fuel comes through Haldia and Bajbaj terminals. In addition, supply comes from Paradip. If these three points are operational, there should be no shortage of oil in the state.
Moreover, the monsoon is ahead. During the monsoon, tankers sometimes arrive late for the roads. Sources say that the stock has been increased keeping that in mind.
My opinion
When prices increase in the world market, the Indian government tries to keep prices stable by providing subsidies. But the supply does not stop. In 2022, crude oil also touched $120. Even then, oil was available at the pump. So there is no need to panic this time either.
However, we also have a responsibility. If we have a car, we will fill the tank for no reason, or stock up on extra cylinders — if we do this, those who really need it will not get it. The administration is giving us hope, we should also cooperate.
