Sanchita chatterjee: Against the backdrop of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee arrived at the premises of Sakhawat Memorial School in South Kolkata tonight—April 30, 2026. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency are being stored at this school. She arrived amidst protests by the Trinamool Congress, which had raised allegations of EVM tampering and irregularities.
Mamata Banerjee reached Sakhawat Memorial around 8:00 PM, accompanied by her election agent. Following her arrival, security arrangements at the venue were further tightened.
It is reported that Mamata Banerjee sat in front of the counting center for approximately an hour and a half with the specific objective of keeping a vigil over the EVMs. Meanwhile, tension flared in the area when BJP supporters staged a protest, questioning the presence of a Trinamool campaign van parked outside the counting center.Earlier, expressing apprehensions regarding potential EVM tampering or manipulation, Trinamool leaders Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja had staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra. Stemming from the lingering tension surrounding these concerns, the Chief Minister herself arrived to inspect the strongroom at Sakhawat Memorial.
