Veteran singer Asha Bhosle has passed away. She was 92 years old. News of her sudden illness began circulating on Saturday evening. Reports indicate that she breathed her last on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday evening, the artist suddenly began experiencing physical discomfort. She mentioned her discomfort to a domestic staff member. Shortly thereafter, she suffered a cardiac arrest. This information was reported by hospital sources.

However, her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, later posted on her X handle: "My grandmother is extremely exhausted. She also has a lung infection. Consequently, she has been admitted to the hospital. We request everyone to please leave us alone for the time being. Please respect our privacy."

The artist's family and fans had hoped that everything would soon be well. Many—including Anupam Kher, Sanjay Kapoor, and Ashoke Pandit—offered their prayers. But ultimately, she could not be saved. With Asha Bhosle's passing, a glorious chapter in the world of music has come to a close.

On Sunday, Asha Bhosle's son, Anand Bhosle, told the media: "My mother passed away today. Tomorrow at 11:00 AM, everyone will be able to pay their final respects to her at 'Casa Grande' in Lower Parel, where she resided. Her last rites will be performed tomorrow at 4:00 PM at Shivaji Park." At Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, Dr. Pratit Samdani confirmed that her death was caused by multi-organ failure.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed her condolences on Asha's passing. She wrote on her X handle: "Deeply saddened by the demise of the legendary musical genius, Asha Bhosle. As a singer, she was an inspiration who reigned over our hearts for generations."  Reflecting further on the artist's musical journey, the Chief Minister wrote, “She sang numerous Bengali songs and was immensely popular in Bengal as well. In 2018, we had the privilege of conferring upon her the *Bangabibhushan* award. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family, colleagues, and millions of fans across the globe.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also posted a message wishing for Asha Bhosle's speedy recovery following her illness. He wrote on social media, “Deeply concerned to learn that Asha Bhosle-ji has been hospitalized. I wish her a speedy recovery.” The artist's passing has cast a pall of gloom over the Indian music fraternity.

Over her long and illustrious career, she recorded countless songs for numerous films and albums in various Indian languages ​​and garnered a multitude of awards. She was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and received the Padma Bhushan in 2008. Additionally, she was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1997. Some of her most popular songs include ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Le Gaya’, and ‘Tumse Milke’, among others.

Prasenjit had the opportunity to know not only the singer but also the person—Asha—on a personal level. Asha had lent her voice to songs in many films directed by him.
