His release—coming on the eve of the state elections—has currently created quite a stir within political circles.The news of Sudipta Sen’s release is indeed a major headline, especially given the timing. On April 8, 2026, the Calcutta High Court granted him bail in the final two pending cases against him (related to the Barasat police station), ending nearly 13 years of incarceration.  

​His release from Presidency Jail comes at a high-voltage moment for West Bengal.
