Chanditala Incident: Kalyan Banerjee Injured During Deputation...

                                                           Chanditala Police Station.

REPORTED BY SANCHITA CHATTERJEE: On Saturday, May 31, 2026, tension flared up in front of the Chanditala Police Station in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee faced a protest while on his way to the police station to submit a deputation. It has been reported that he sustained injuries during this incident.

According to local sources, Kalyan Banerjee was heading to the Chanditala Police Station to submit a deputation regarding a specific issue. As soon as he arrived in front of the station, a group of ordinary citizens blocked his path. It is alleged that the protesters began waving black flags at him and chanting slogans of "Chor, Chor" (Thief, Thief).

The situation quickly escalated. Eyewitnesses claim that amidst the protest, a stone was hurled from a distance, targeting Kalyan Banerjee. It is alleged that a stone struck him on the head. Subsequently, he slumped to the ground. Party workers and supporters present at the scene immediately surrounded him and arranged for first aid. A photograph of the incident, showing people gathered around Kalyan Banerjee, has gone viral on social media.

Following the incident, Kalyan Banerjee told journalists that he had been attacked by BJP workers. He alleged that he was subjected to a premeditated harassment campaign. He stated, "I went to submit a deputation through democratic means. However, I was attacked out of political vendetta." On the other hand, the state leadership of the BJP has denied these allegations. A BJP spokesperson remarked, "No worker from our party was involved in this incident. Those who staged the protest were ordinary citizens.

The public's anger found expression through this demonstration. It is unfair to pin the blame for this on the BJP." Upon receiving news of the incident, the police from the Chanditala Police Station rushed to the scene. The police brought the situation under control and deployed additional forces in the area. The police department has announced that an investigation into the entire incident has been initiated. CCTV footage is being scrutinized.

Police sources indicate that legal action will be taken against those found to be involved in the incident. The incident has sparked intense debate within state politics. Trinamool leaders have strongly condemned the attack, claiming that workers from opposition parties in the state are continuously targeting Trinamool leaders. Conversely, the BJP maintains that public outrage over corruption was the root cause of the protest. According to political analysts, such incidents are likely to further heighten political tensions in the state ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections. A palpable sense of tension currently prevails in the Chanditala area.

The police administration is keeping a close watch on the situation. GDN365 condemns this incident. In a democracy, there should be room for dialogue and protest; however, violence and aggression are by no means acceptable. We wish Kalyan Banerjee a speedy recovery. At the same time, we appeal to the administration to conduct an impartial investigation and ensure that the culprits are punished. Stay tuned to GDN365 for further updates regarding this development in state politics.
