Kolkata, May 24: The Trinamool Congress-led Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) faces major trouble after an FIR was lodged against several high-ranking officials. The allegations include illegal building plan approvals, fake mutations, and encroachment of government land to allegedly benefit a major real estate company. Mayor Firhad Hakim's name has surfaced in the complaint, creating political turmoil.

Key Allegations: According to complainant Sricharan Roy, the scam involves fake inspection reports, map tampering, and illegal alteration of KMC's confidential Municipal Assessment Book and digital database records. A specific construction company was allegedly given 'No Objection Certificates' for environment and fire safety without verification. The mutation process for land ownership was completed through forged means. Building plans were approved in haste on instructions from influential persons.

Complainant's Statement: Sricharan Roy stated that such a massive fraud is impossible without direct support from corrupt officials of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and KMDA. He further alleged that Mayor Firhad Hakim acted as the patron and provided protection to the entire process. The complaint demands a thorough investigation into the role of all accused officials.

Political Impact: This FIR comes when TMC is already facing multiple corruption charges across municipalities. Opposition parties have demanded a CBI investigation into KMC's functioning. BJP leaders alleged that the corporation has become a hub of corruption under the current leadership. The party plans to raise this issue in the Assembly and demand the Mayor's resignation.

What is Mutation Fraud? Mutation records transfer of property ownership in revenue records. According to the complaint, fake mutations were done to change ownership of valuable government and private land, enabling a real estate firm to grab property illegally. Altering the digital assessment database is also considered a serious cyber crime under current laws.

Investigation Update: Police sources confirmed the FIR is registered and a preliminary inquiry has begun. The Economic Offences Wing may take over due to the financial and digital nature of the crimes. Investigators will examine building plan files, digital records, and bank transactions of accused officials and the beneficiary company. KMC's legal department is examining the complaint, but no official statement has been issued yet.
