Leave your mobile and come to the field: From corporate cricket to 'Beti Khelo' - Haldia's Eureka's new innings
Started in 1989. And government registration in 2011. Haldia Eureka Sports and Cultural Welfare Society is now not just a club, but a big platform working on sports, social service, culture and education. In the last 35 years, this organization has been spreading its work all over India, starting from Haldia.
Starting with cricket, the goal is to bring out talent
The organization launched the Eureka Institute of Cricket in Haldia in 2016. The main goals are two. One, to popularize corporate cricket. Two, to bring out young talents from villages and cities and provide professional training. Tournaments for employees in between office hours, and free coaching for schoolchildren - both are going on simultaneously.
The organization claims that this model is now being spread not only in Bengal, but also throughout the country. Talks are also underway with corporate houses in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore so that employees can play.
This year's event at NKDA Stadium, gifts for hitting sixes
Last year, the corporate cricket tournament was held at Gitanjali Stadium. This time, the venue is changing. It is proposed that this year's mega event will be held at NKDA Cricket Stadium in Newtown.
There will be a great surprise for the audience. If someone sitting in the gallery can catch a flying six, there will be a special gift for him. According to the company's officials, "We have to attract people to the field. Not just playing, but bringing the whole family to the field, that is our goal."
'Beti Khelo' - Free entry for girls
Eureka's biggest message is about girls. Participation of girls in the company's tournament is completely free. They have added a new line - 'Beti Khelo' to the slogan 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'.
Why this initiative? The secretary of the organization said, “Many parents in rural areas still do not want to send their girls to the field. We want everyone, regardless of whether they are boys or girls, to start playing sports from the age of five. Playing keeps the body healthy, the mind healthy, and leadership qualities are developed.”
Main mantra: Leave your mobile phones and come to the field
Eureka’s core message is very clear - “Leave your mobile phones and come to the field.” Today’s children are obsessed with mobile phones, tabs, and video games. The habit of going to the field is decreasing. As a result, obesity, eye problems, and depression are increasing.
Eureka wants to break this trend and focus on the field. Not only cricket, but in the future they have plans for football, athletics, yoga, and fitness camps - everything. Along with this, the organization is also carrying out social service work like blood donation camps, book distribution, and scholarships for needy students.
35-year journey, bigger goals ahead
A few sports enthusiasts started it in 1989. After getting registered in 2011, the pace of work increased. Cricket Academy in 2016. And now the dream of spreading all over India.
The officials of the organization say, “We do not sit around waiting for government help. We have come this far with the cooperation and enthusiasm of the common people, former players, corporate sponsors. In the coming days, we want to do even bigger work with sports and fitness. We want your support.”
This fight that started in Haldia is now on the verge of reaching the national level. If this slogan ‘Leave your mobile and come to the field’ reaches every household, then only will Eureka’s mission be successful.
