Empty Red Road, Happy Eid celebrated at Brigade Parade Ground, Mamata Abhishek did not come*

Eid  Mubarak 2026

Since the formation of the new government in West Bengal, political and social practices have started focusing on several administrative decisions. In that atmosphere, an important notification was issued by the state government. The notification clearly stated that from now on, Eid prayers will not be held on Red Road in Kolkata. The administration's argument is that due to prayers on Red Road, traffic has to be stopped for a long time, which increases the suffering of the common people and has a huge impact on the city's traffic system.

According to the decision of the state government, this time the Brigade Parade Ground has been designated for Eid-ul-Zohar prayers. The administration had earlier informed that the prayers will be organized there by maintaining a peaceful environment and giving utmost importance to security.

This morning, the holy prayers of Eid-ul-Zohar were held at Brigade Parade Ground. Since dawn, people of the Muslim community left for the Brigade.  Thousands of people turned up to participate in the prayers. The entire area was filled with religious sentiments, festive joy and messages of peace.

There was strict vigilance over security arrangements. The entire Brigade Maidan and the adjacent area were practically wrapped in a police security blanket. A large number of police forces, RAF, Quick Response Team and plainclothes police personnel were deployed. The administration informed that special attention has been paid to ensure that no kind of communal provocation or untoward incident takes place.

Multiple checking points were set up at the entrance of the Brigade Parade Ground. Everyone has to enter the ground through security checks. According to administration sources, the entire area is monitored through drone cameras. In addition, high-ranking officials of Kolkata Police are also keeping a close watch on the situation.

After the prayers, the imams gave a message of peace and harmony. Special prayers were offered for the peace of the country, the progress of the state and the well-being of all people.  Many people have supported the government's decision. According to them, this decision can be effective in reducing traffic congestion in the city and maintaining administrative control.

On the other hand, a section of the opposition claims that there has been a mixed reaction among the common people regarding the removal of the long-standing traditional Red Road prayer. Although the administration has made it clear that this decision has been taken keeping law and order and public interest in mind.

There was a festive atmosphere in the Brigade area since morning around the prayer. Various voluntary organizations also provided drinking water and first aid. After the prayer, the traffic situation also normalized when people gradually started leaving the field.

All in all, this year's Eid-ul-Zuhar prayer was completed peacefully amidst tight security. The administration claims that the entire event was successfully completed without any untoward incident.
