Chief Minister at Belur Math. Maharajas blessings, blessed. visit
Repoted by Sanchita chatterjee:
state witnessed a different morning today at the holy site of Belur Math. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached Belur Math this morning and received blessings from the Maharajas of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The Chief Minister's visit to this international spiritual centre established on the ideals of Swami Vivekananda was surrounded by a rare blend of devotion, respect and political courtesy.
Moment of arrival
The Chief Minister's convoy reached the main gate of Belur Math at around 8:30 am. On behalf of the Math, General Secretary Swami Subiranandaji Maharaj and other senior monks welcomed her. As per tradition, the Chief Minister first paid obeisance at the temples of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sarada Devi and Swamiji. There was immense peace throughout the entire complex. Away from the hustle and bustle of politics, the Math premises standing on the banks of the Ganges seemed even more meditative that day.
Meeting with the Maharajas
After visiting the temple, the Chief Minister paid a courtesy call on the Maharajas at the Math office. According to sources, the meeting, which lasted for about 25 minutes, discussed the development of the state, social service and inspiring the youth with Swamiji's ideals. Swami Subiranandaji Maharaj blessed the Chief Minister by wearing an Uttariya. The Chief Minister also bowed down to the Maharajas' feet and sought blessings. Addressing all those present, he said, "Belur Math is not just a place of worship, it is a temple of humanity. Swamiji had said 'He who loves life, that person serves God'. My government continues to serve people in that way."

Gifts and Prasad
At the end of the visit, the Math presented Swamiji's books, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature and Prasad sweets to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister also assured all possible cooperation from the state government for the service work of the Math. He took stock of the charitable hospitals, schools and relief work run by the Math.
Political significance
A section of the political circles consider this visit of the Chief Minister to Belur Math before the elections as significant. However, the Math authorities have always stated that Belur Math is a completely non-political institution. The President, Prime Minister and leaders of all parties come here to seek blessings. This is part of the culture and tradition of Bengal. The Chief Minister herself told reporters, "I have not come here to do politics. I have come to my mother, I have come to seek strength from Swamiji so that I can do more work for the people of Bengal."

Memories of Berhampur
It is worth noting that the Chief Minister has visited Belur Math many times before. Even after coming to power in 2011, he came to seek the blessings of the Maharajas. He highly praised the Math's relief work during Covid.
The Chief Minister waved to the devotees and visitors as he left at the end of the tour. This holy tour ended amidst the breeze of the Ganges, the ringing of temple bells and the chanting of Vedic mantras by the monks. Today's Belur Math once again reminded us that there is a greater meaning to life beyond politics.
