A cruise boat sank in Madhya Pradesh after being caught in a storm. Reports indicate that many people have lost their lives in this tragedy. Amidst this, a heartbreaking image of a mother and her child has emerged.

The mother is holding her child in a tight embrace, while the child, too, clings desperately to her. The mother had faith in herself, and the child placed their trust entirely in their mother. Yet, in the end, both perished in the waters. Until their very last moments, the child never let go of their mother's *anchal* (the loose end of her sari).

The mother was wearing a life jacket; had she chosen to, she could have saved her own life. Instead, she sacrificed her own life in an attempt to save that of her child.

Following a long-standing dispute, the West Bengal government has taken a significant step toward clearing the outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) dues of state government employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an announcement regarding this matter on Sunday afternoon, prior to the declaration of the election schedule in the state. Notably, even before her announcement, the Finance Department had issued several notifications and memoranda on March 13, stating that the DA arrears—accrued between April 2008 and December 2019—would be cleared in a phased manner.
