  Sanchita chatterjee 23 April ,Murshidabad: On the day of the first phase of voting for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections (April 23, 2026), Humayun Kabir found himself at the epicenter of unprecedented tension in the Naoda Assembly constituency of Murshidabad. After being expelled from the Trinamool Congress, Humayun Kabir—the incumbent MLA for Bharatpur—formed his own party, the *Am Janata Unnayan Party* (AJUP), and is contesting this election from the Naoda constituency.



In the Shivnagar area of ​​Naoda, Humayun Kabir's convoy was reportedly attacked, and allegations have surfaced that his vehicle was vandalized. This incident triggered widespread tension across the locality.

Protests and Sloganeering When he went to inspect a polling booth, Trinamool Congress supporters targeted him with "Go Back" slogans and branded him a "thief." In retaliation, his own followers also staged protests.

Allegations Against Police and Dharna Questioning the conduct of the police, he staged a *dharna* (sit-in protest) on the streets of Naoda, sitting on a chair. He alleged that the police were acting with bias and had unnecessarily resorted to a *lathi-charge* (baton charge) against his workers. He has demanded the removal of the concerned police officer.


On the eve of the election, incidents of bomb-throwing were reported in various parts of the Naoda Assembly constituency, for which both the Trinamool Congress and the AJUP have blamed each other.


Election Commission InterventionTo bring the volatile situation in Naoda under control, a massive police force and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the area.
