Sanchita chatterjee  On April 24, 2026, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha Chadha lost nearly 1 million Instagram followers within 24 hours of joining the BJP.

officially left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a significant political move, Chadha led six other AAP Rajya Sabha MPs including 

Harbhajan Singh and Sandeep Pathak

to merge with the BJP, effectively reducing AAP's strength in the Upper House from ten members to three. The announcement triggered a massive digital backlash, particularly from Gen Z followers who previously viewed Chadha as a youthful, anti-establishment icon. Chadha lost nearly 1 million Instagram followers within 24 hours of joining the BJP.


Declining Metrics: His follower count reportedly plummeted from approximately 14.6 million on Friday morning to about 13.3–13.5 million by Saturday afternoon.


Viral Campaigns: A viral "#UnfollowRaghav" campaign gained traction on social media, with many users accusing him of "political hypocrisy" after old videos of him criticizing the BJP resurfaced. 


Chadha described himself as the "right man in the wrong party," claiming that AAP had strayed from its founding anti-corruption principles and "honest politics". The move followed a period of escalating tension within AAP, which included his removal as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha weeks earlier.
