Students Escape Unharmed as School Bus Catches Fire in  ALIPUR DUAR A major tragedy was averted in ALIPUR DUAR on Tuesday morning after a school bus carrying young students suddenly caught fire near PATKA Para, just outside the city. Quick thinking by the driver and local residents ensured all children were safely evacuated before the flames spread. The incident took place around 7:45 AM when the bus, ferrying nearly 30 students to a private school, was passing through the busy PATKA Para area. Eyewitnesses said smoke began rising from the engine compartment. The driver, noticing the flames, immediately pulled over and opened the doors, shouting for the children to get out. Panic spread among the students, many of them from primary classes, but teachers on board and nearby shopkeepers rushed to help. Within minutes, every child was moved to a safe distance. Locals used sand, water, and fire extinguishers from adjacent shops to try controlling the blaze before fire services arrived. Two fire tenders from ALIPUR DUAR Fire Station reached the spot and doused the flames within 20 minutes. The bus was gutted, but no injuries were reported. Parents who rushed to the scene after hearing the news were relieved to find their children safe, though visibly shaken. Preliminary reports suggest a short circuit in the engine may have triggered the fire. The ALIPURDUAR District Administration has ordered a mechanical inspection of all school buses operating in the region. Police have also asked schools to conduct emergency evacuation drills with students and staff. The driver, hailed as a hero by locals, said, “I just saw smoke and thought of the children first. We’re trained for this, but when it happens, you only think about getting them out. ”Residents of PATKA Para have demanded stricter fitness checks for school vehicles, especially ahead of winter when electrical faults are common. Meanwhile, the school authority has arranged COUNSELING for the students and announced the bus will be replaced immediately .Thanks to alert action and community help, ALIPURDUAR escaped what could have been a terrible accident.
