Amidst the rapidly evolving global energy landscape, India’s energy demand continues to rise. Against this backdrop, technologies, partnerships, and strategic decisions that will define the future of the energy sector will take center stage at ‘India Energy Week (IEW) 2027’.
Guided by the theme “Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow,” the fifth edition of IEW is set to take place in Kolkata for the first time from January 28 to 31, 2027. It will be the year’s first major global energy conference, bringing together policymakers, energy sector leaders, technology innovators, investors, and industry stakeholders from around the world. They will deliberate on ways to strengthen global energy security and advance sustainability. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri launched the curtain-raiser event for ‘India Energy Week (IEW) 2027’ in Kolkata, marking the beginning of the journey towards the fifth edition of the event. He was accompanied by the Minister for Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources and Public Enterprises & Industrial Reconstruction, Government of West Bengal; the Minister for Industries, Commerce and Enterprises, Shri Tapas Roy; the Finance Minister of the Government of West Bengal, Dr. Swapan Dasgupta; and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the curtain-raiser event, Shri Tapas Roy said, "Hosting 'India Energy Week 2027' (IEW 2027) in Kolkata is an opportunity to highlight the growing importance of Eastern and North-Eastern India in the country's energy sector. We can serve as a platform to showcase investment potential in West Bengal and the wider eastern region."
Regarding the rise of Eastern India as an energy hub, Shri Dasgupta said: "It is also important to acknowledge that today, West Bengal—particularly due to new exploration activities in Ashoknagar—is joining the ranks of neighboring states like Assam, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Consequently, Eastern India is poised to emerge as the new energy hub of the entire subcontinent."
Shri Puri expressed hope that 'India Energy Week 2027' would become a significant milestone in India's energy journey—particularly regarding sustainability, transformation, and the promotion of new energy forms such as biofuels and green hydrogen.

He also highlighted the successful commercial exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas at the Ashoknagar oil field in the state's North 24 Parganas district. Shri Adhikari stated that the success of 'India Energy Week (IEW) 2027' would help attract new investments to West Bengal, facilitate the expansion of existing projects, and create employment opportunities.
