CIL Cup: South Kolkata’s United India Football Club Qualifies for Zonal Round in Women’s Category

SANCHITA CHATTERJEE Kolkata, September 12, 2026: Coal India’s CIL Cup has emerged as a vital platform for female footballers to participate and showcase their talent. South Kolkata’s United India Football Club secured a spot in the zonal round by defeating SBSSFA 2-0.

Priyanka Naskar played a pivotal role in United India Football Club's victory during the South Kolkata leg of the tournament, which featured eight participating teams. She was awarded the 'Player of the Match' title.

This result has added momentum to the ongoing league stage of the competition across West Bengal, as teams continue to vie for a place in the zonal round. The CIL Cup offers young footballers from various parts of the state the opportunity to compete, gain experience in crucial matches, and demonstrate their potential. Simultaneously, the tournament advances the broader objective of identifying talent at the grassroots level.

As the league stage progresses, the competition will move towards the zonal round, where qualifying teams will battle for a spot in the next crucial phase. Four teams from the men's category and four from the women's category will advance from the zonal round to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be held in Purulia, offering another significant opportunity for the teams that progress to these stages.

The tournament's goal of talent development extends beyond on-field competition. Upon the conclusion of the CIL Cup, 50 to 100 players will be recommended to the Sports Authority of India for scholarships, creating potential avenues for promising young footballers to continue their development.

With several league-stage matches still remaining across West Bengal, teams will continue to fight for qualification to the zonal round and, subsequently, the semi-finals and finals. Coal India’s support for the CIL Cup is helping to create an expansive football platform at the grassroots level, where young footballers can compete and showcase their talent.
