IIT Kharagpur Hosts Sanjeev Sanyal for Dialogue on Economic Reforms and Viksit Bharat 

 Sanchita chatterjee Kolkata, August 4, 2026: As part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations, IIT Kharagpur hosted an interactive session titled "The Art of Doing Economic Reforms" featuring Shri Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics.

More than 450 participants, including students, alumni, faculty members, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and innovators, attended the event to discuss India's journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047.

In his address, Shri Sanyal highlighted the importance of "process reforms" alongside major structural reforms. He explained that simplifying administrative procedures, removing unnecessary bottlenecks, improving transparency, and effectively leveraging technology can significantly enhance governance, improve the ease of doing business, and strengthen citizen service delivery. He emphasized that meaningful reform comes through systematic process mapping, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing practical, continuous improvements.

Drawing from real-world examples in public administration, Shri Sanyal illustrated how carefully designed process reforms have reduced timelines, improved institutional efficiency, and strengthened governance. He also noted that digitalisation should support well-designed governance systems rather than replace them.

"India's journey towards Viksit Bharat will not be driven only by big policy announcements but also by thousands of well-designed process reforms that make governance simpler, faster, more transparent and citizen-centric. Incremental improvements, when pursued consistently, create transformational national outcomes," Shri Sanjeev Sanyal said.

Welcoming the distinguished speaker, Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director of IIT Kharagpur, emphasized the vital role of academic institutions in connecting policy, technology, innovation, and societal development.

"The vision of Viksit Bharat demands institutions that can seamlessly integrate knowledge, technology, governance, and innovation. At IIT Kharagpur, we believe academia must actively engage with policymakers, industry, and society to co-create practical solutions for national development," Prof. Chakraborty said.

The event concluded with a fireside conversation between Prof. Chakraborty and Shri Sanyal on India's innovation ecosystem, governance reforms, higher education, research-driven entrepreneurship, and the collaborative role of academia in achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat @2047. An interactive question-and-answer session further enriched the discussion.

The programme reaffirmed IIT Kharagpur Research Park's commitment to fostering meaningful collaboration among academia, government, industry, and society while inspiring the next generation of leaders and innovators.
