The End of the Road for Lakshmir Bhandar! No Funds to be Credited in May! What Lies Ahead

Sanchita chatterjee 5th May: When will the money of the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme be deposited in May 2026? Will the Lakshmir Bhandar be closed after the results of the assembly elections or will the Annapurna Bhandar get Rs 3,000? Read this report to know the payment status and new updates. May 4, 2026, is marked as a turning point in the political history of West Bengal. Big changes in the state in the assembly elections. After the BJP removed the long-time ruling party Trinamool Congress from power, there is only one question in the minds of crores of women - will the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme be closed this time? Will the money be deposited in the account for the last time in May? It is worth noting that the BJP government had made several promises before coming to power. It has announced to bring various schemes related to health insurance, from providing financial assistance to all mothers and sisters of the society. Rise of BJP and future of the scheme: A 'BJP storm' could be seen in the state from the beginning of the counting. The heavyweight candidates of the Trinamool Congress lost in many seats. The BJP came to power as per its election promises.  In this situation, there is great uncertainty about the future of the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. The BJP had promised in its election manifesto that if they come to power, they will launch 'Annapurna Bhandar' for women, where the allowance amount will be increased to Rs 3,000 per month.

Will the money for May be available? Usually, the money from the scheme reaches the bank accounts of the beneficiaries between the 1st and 7th of every month. But with the results being declared on May 4 and the administrative reshuffle, there has been a complication in getting the money for May. Experts believe that due to the change of government, administrative work like formation of the new cabinet and oath-taking ceremony will take some time. As a result, we may have to wait till the middle or end of the month to get the May allowance. Lakshmi Bhandar vs Annapurna Bhandar: Currently, the Mamata Banerjee government was giving Rs 1,500 to general and OBC category women and Rs 1,700 to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category women.  It has been claimed that this amount will increase to Rs 3,000 if the BJP comes to power. However, there is no clear guideline yet on whether a new form will have to be filled to get this money or the money will be sent using the old database. There have already been reports of Annapurna Bhandar forms being distributed in many places, but it is a matter of time before this scheme is officially launched.
