Refers to a recent decision by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to cancel the initial voting held on April 29, 2026, in the Falta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The ECI cited "severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process". Reports indicated irregularities such as EVM tampering (including black tape over buttons), unauthorized entries into polling booths, and voter intimidation.

 Fresh voting for all 285 polling stations in Falta is scheduled for May 21, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

On Monday, May 4, 2026, counting will proceed for the remaining 293 of the 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly.
