 Sanchita chatterjee Kolkata 8th May 2026: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government. This swearing-in ceremony for the new BJP government is scheduled to take place on Saturday, the 25th of Boishakh (May 9, 2026), at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.


As a former Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee had been formally invited to the event. However, she has decided not to participate in the ceremony.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Chief Ministers of various BJP-ruled states are expected to be present at the event.

In view of the ceremony, approximately 4,000 police personnel—comprising both the Kolkata Police and central forces—have been deployed, and traffic movement is being regulated on several roads across the city.
