The West Bengal government has launched a new scheme to make women in the state financially self-reliant. The name of the scheme is "Annapurna Yojana". This notification was issued on 19 May 2026 on the instructions of the Governor. The main objective of this scheme is to provide specific financial assistance every month to all eligible women residents of the state.

How much money will be available?

Under Annapurna Yojana, every eligible woman will get Rs 3,000 every month. This money will be sent directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account through DBT or Direct Benefit Transfer. This system will be effective from 1 June 2026. That is, the money will start flowing from the month of June.

Who can apply? Eligibility conditions

According to the government notification, three main conditions must be met:

Age condition: The age of the applicant should be between 25 years and 60 years.  This benefit will not be available if you are below 25 years or above 60 years.

Employment conditions: The applicant cannot be employed in any permanent government service. It will not be valid if you are in receipt of any regular salary or pension under the state or central government. Also, you cannot apply even if you are working as a teacher or professor in any government or semi-government organization, panchayat, municipality, local body, school, educational institution or state government aided educational institution.

Income tax conditions: The applicant cannot be an income tax payer. Those who file income tax returns will not be covered under this scheme.

What is the relationship with the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme?

Among those who are currently receiving the benefits of the Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana, all the women except those who are deceased, transferred, or whose names have been excluded from the list identified during SIR-2026 — will be automatically included in the Annapurna Yojana.

If someone's name is omitted by mistake, an appeal can be filed in the SIR Tribunal or the Amendment/Citizenship Court.  Financial assistance under the new scheme will continue till the appeal is disposed of. The names of deceased and transferred beneficiaries will be deleted on a regular basis later.

When will the application start?

For those who are not yet covered under any scheme, the new application process will start from 1 June 2026. Applications will have to be made online on the Annapurna Yojana portal. The link to the portal will be officially announced soon.

Who will verify the application?

All applications will be verified by the concerned government officials. The Block Development Officer or BDO for rural areas and the Sub-Divisional Officer or SDO for urban areas will prepare a list of eligible applicants and send it to the District Magistrate. In the case of Kolkata Municipal Area, this work will be done by the officials of the Municipal Corporation. The list will be uploaded on the portal after the District Magistrate gives final approval.

This scheme will directly benefit lakhs of women in West Bengal. Please share this information with the eligible women in your area.
