Reported by Sanchita chatterjee madhamgram 7th May 2026: In the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, the police—alongside a Special Investigation Team and forensic experts—have already gathered several crucial pieces of information. (May 7, 2026) Based on preliminary findings, the police suspect that this killing was not the work of ordinary criminals; rather, professional contract killers may have been involved. According to forensic experts, a sophisticated Austrian-made Glock 47X pistol was used in the attack, and approximately 6 to 10 rounds were fired.

Investigators have stated that the murder was meticulously planned. The perpetrators likely conducted reconnaissance by monitoring Chandranath Rath's movements for two to three days prior to the incident. CCTV footage reveals that the vehicle suspected of being used in the killing had been circling the area since the afternoon of the day of the incident.

The white four-wheeled vehicle used to intercept Chandranath Rath's car turned out to be a stolen vehicle bearing a fake license plate. The police have already seized the vehicle.

In addition to the State Police's special team, the Homicide Branch of the CID also visited the crime scene on Thursday morning and has initiated an investigation.

The BJP leadership has characterized the incident as a "premeditated political murder." Conversely, the Trinamool Congress has demanded a court-monitored CBI inquiry to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter.

The police are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the area and are attempting to create sketches of the assailants. However, no arrests have been formally made in connection with this case so far.
