Before heading out to cast their votes, every Bengali woman should be aware of the following:

BJP-ruled states lead the nation in rape incidents. In fact, every single state topping the list for rape cases is governed by the BJP.

Kolkata is India's safest city. While unfortunate incidents do occur here, they are significantly fewer in number. Our goal must be to bring this figure down to zero.

Here—that is, in Bengal—if a rape occurs, people immediately take to the streets, staging protests and holding "Night Occupation" demonstrations. In contrast, in BJP-ruled states, rapists are often garlanded and paraded around.

In Bihar, rapes are taking place on public streets in broad daylight, while bystanders merely record the acts on video—footage they will later consume as pornography. Just think about that.

Here, whenever a rape occurs, everyone—men and women alike—rises up in protest. But would a "Night Occupation" protest against rape even be possible for women in Bihar, UP, Haryana, or Rajasthan? If women were to attempt such a protest there, how many more rapes would likely occur that very night?

North and West India—along with the political parties dominant in those regions—are inherently anti-women. In those areas, female fetuses are often aborted before they even have a chance to be born.

The BJP and RSS want women to refrain from dressing according to their own choices, from eating dishes like chowmein, and from using mobile phones. They envision women solely as vessels for bearing and raising children.

Hindi-speaking men often verbally abuse Bengali men, accusing them of "putting women on a pedestal." These Hindi speakers simply cannot tolerate the independent spirit of Bengali women.

Hindi-speaking men from BJP-ruled states often view Bengali women as "cheap goods"—mere objects to be used for warming their beds. They label Bengali women as prostitutes and even claim that they practice black magic.
