The Paralympic Committee (PCI) today (March 11) in New Delhi hosted the second edition of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, which will be held from March 11 to March 2026, in which 257 athletes from across the country will compete for a major Para Athletics International Express. The event, hosted by the Jawalal Nehru (LN) Stadium, is part of the official navigability of the Grand Prix, for athletes and participants. And supports efforts to ensure the freedom of movement.
The Grand Prix will feature participation from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Serbia, Bosnia, and neutral para athletes, with the team representing the largest contingent of around 219 athletes in various track and field events.
A number of top para athletes are expected to participate, including Paralympic athletes Mariyappan Thangavelu, Sumit Antil, and Praveen Kumar. The team will also include Paralympic medalists Ajit Singh and Kendre Singh Gurjar, Asian Para Games medalist Ankur Dhama, 2025 World Cup gold medalist T12 sprinter Simran and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games international wool pre-Pal, the first team to win the Plywood Track and Field event at the same Paralympics.
Speaking about the event, Prabhas Jhajharia, Head of Paralympic Impact Centre, said: “The New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix reflects the growing stature of Para Sport in the world. It is an important step in the country’s Para Athletics ecosystem to provide valuable international ownership to athletes, as well as to provide hospitality to athletes from around the world.
World Para Athletics’ Explore Paul Fitzgerald said: “After a year of the Prix de la Prix and five months of the World Community Group, I am excited to be back in Delhi. The investment in the JLN Stadium has been a major boost for the country’s record medal-winning state in 2026. My hope is that the grand prix will provide a platform for new entrants and a platform for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
