Myanmar earthquake jolts Kolkata

 




The earthquake originated in Myanmar

 (roughly 70 miles east of Akyab).


Magnitude: Estimates range between 5.9 and 6.1 on the Richter scale. 

Duration: The shaking in Kolkata lasted for about 10–15 seconds.

Impact: No immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage have been confirmed in Kolkata, though residents in high-rise buildings reported seeing fans sway and furniture shake. Earlier in the day, a separate 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bangladesh at approximately 4:06 AM IST, which was also noted by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
