Howrah Hooghly Warriors won a thrilling match against JHR Royal City FC with a last-minute goal.


Sanchita Chatterjee, Kolkata, February 1st 2026: The first edition of the Bengal Super League concluded with a spectacular final at Kalyani Stadium.  In the very last minute of the game, Kaustav Dutta's goal secured a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory for Howrah Hooghly Warriors against JHR Royal City FC Malda | Murshidabad, making them the champions. After a long and highly successful inaugural season, the league has fulfilled its promise of unearthing grassroots talent, with players from various districts rising to the occasion and making their mark on a competitive, professional stage. Both finalists reached the top clash through outstanding performances and displayed consistency, resilience, and high-quality football throughout the season.


Howrah Hooghly Warriors took the lead in the 34th minute with a header from a corner by Seila Toure, but JHR equalized just before halftime in the 46th minute through a goal by Sukhchand Kisku, and the teams went into the break level.


JHR started the second half aggressively, with Avinash Pal making a superb save in the 47th minute and Amit Tudu making a crucial clearance to thwart a dangerous Howrah Hooghly attack. In the 56th minute, young player Deep Gain put the Warriors ahead again, although the goal was marred by an unfortunate collision with JHR goalkeeper Sourav Samanta, resulting in the goalscorer suffering a nasal injury and being taken off the field in an ambulance, causing a lengthy stoppage in play.  JHR made a desperate attempt to equalize and squandered two big opportunities around the 70th minute. Tuhin Das hit the post with a superb shot and continued to trouble the defense with his direct runs.  In the dying moments of extra time, in the 92nd minute, Mohammed Sumit scored from a counter-attack to level the score at 2-2. Howrah Hooghly thought they had won the match at the last minute, but the goal in the 95th minute was disallowed due to offside, resulting in a dramatic draw. In the very last minute of extra time (120th minute), Howrah Hooghly Warriors dramatically secured a 3-2 victory with a goal directly from a corner kick taken by Kaustav Dutta. Despite the loss, Mohammed Sumit received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
