Reported by Sanchita chatterjee On January 28, 2026, at approximately 08:44, a business jet carrying Ajit Pawar on a charter flight from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai to Baramati Airport in Maharashtra crashed while attempting to land for the second time on runway 11 at Baramati Airport. The aircraft veered off the runway, caught fire, and was destroyed on impact, killing Pawar and four other passengers.
The aircraft was a 16-year-old Learjet 45XR, registered VT-SSK, operated by VSR Aviation.
At the time of the incident, Pawar was traveling to Baramati to address several public meetings related to the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. Following his death, the Maharashtra government declared three days of state mourning; his funeral was held with full state honors in Baramati on January 29. His body was cremated.
