Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Shri Modi said that he was in Malda yesterday and felt fortunate to be among the people of Hooghly today. He emphasized that the development of Eastern India is essential for a developed India, and the Central Government is continuously working towards this goal. He said that yesterday's and today's programs further strengthen this resolve. The Prime Minister noted that he has had the opportunity to lay the foundation stone for and inaugurate projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees related to the development of West Bengal during this time.
Shri Modi said that the country's first Vande Bharat sleeper train was flagged off from West Bengal yesterday. He further added that Bengal has also received nearly half a dozen new Amrit Bharat Express trains. He said that three more Amrit Bharat Express trains were launched today. He mentioned that one of these trains will further strengthen the connectivity between his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and Bengal. He also said that Amrit Bharat Express trains have also been launched for Delhi and Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister emphasized that the last 24 hours have been unprecedented for West Bengal's rail connectivity.
Prime Minister Modi said that Bengal has immense potential in waterways, and the Central Government is also working on this. He mentioned that support is being provided for building the necessary infrastructure for port-led development. He said that projects related to ports and waterways were also inaugurated and their foundation stones laid a short while ago. He emphasized that these are extremely important for the development of West Bengal and India. He said that these are the pillars on which West Bengal can be transformed into a major hub for manufacturing, trade, and logistics. The Prime Minister congratulated everyone on these projects.
Shri Modi said that the more emphasis is placed on ports and the associated ecosystem, the more employment opportunities will be created here. He said that in the last 11 years, the Central Government has made significant investments in increasing the capacity of the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port. He further added that roads have also been constructed under the Sagarmala project to improve connectivity to this port. He remarked that the results of these efforts are now visible. The Prime Minister noted that the Kolkata port created a new record in cargo handling last year. Prime Minister Modi said that the expanded port gate system being built in Balagarh will open up new opportunities for Hooghly and the surrounding areas. He emphasized that it will reduce traffic congestion and ease the pressure on logistics in Kolkata city. He said that the transportation of goods through waterways on the Ganges River will increase further. The Prime Minister stressed that this entire infrastructure will help transform Hooghly into a warehousing and trading hub, bringing in new investments worth hundreds of crores of rupees, creating thousands of jobs, benefiting small traders and transporters, and providing new markets for farmers and producers.
