Home News Election Commission takes strict decision regarding SIR, rejects Mamata Banerjee's objection and cancels Family Register Certificate.
The Election Commission has taken a strict decision regarding the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process, rejecting Mamata Banerjee's objection and cancelling the Family Register Certificate.
Reported by Sanchita Chatterjee,A new controversy has erupted surrounding the special process of voter list revision in the state, known as SIR (Special Intensive Revision). Although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had raised objections regarding the documents related to the SIR hearing, the Election Commission has stated that there will be no change in the established rules. Neither the Family Register Certificate nor the Permanent Resident Certificate will be acceptable for SIR. Recently, Roll Observer and senior IAS officer C. Murugan visited South 24 Parganas to review the SIR process. The incidents of protests against him in Magrahat and Kulpi have already come under the strict scrutiny of the Election Commission. However, another serious issue came to light during that visit.
C. Murugan's observations revealed that in some areas, Family Register Certificates were being accepted for SIR, going beyond the prescribed documents. Allegations have even surfaced that some BLOs (Booth Level Officers) accepted these documents.
