A 104-year-old woman appeared at the SIR Hearing.I came here with sheer willpower.

The name of that 104-year-old remarkable woman is Achia Khatun.

She is recognized as a valiant freedom fighter of Bangladesh.

In May 2024, she personally appeared at the 'Enemy Surveillance and Investigation' (SIR) hearing at the office of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka) in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, the capital city. Despite age-related physical ailments and the intense heat, she participated in the hearing in a wheelchair.

Present there, she said in an emotional voice, I have come here solely by the strength of my indomitable willpower.

Following a long-standing dispute, the West Bengal government has taken a significant step toward clearing the outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) dues of state government employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an announcement regarding this matter on Sunday afternoon, prior to the declaration of the election schedule in the state. Notably, even before her announcement, the Finance Department had issued several notifications and memoranda on March 13, stating that the DA arrears—accrued between April 2008 and December 2019—would be cleared in a phased manner.
