Kolkata to Host Year-End Special Edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle; Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari, Joydeep Karmakar to Headline Event at SAI.
Reported by Sanchita chatterjee Kolkata, December 27: The City of Joy will host the 54th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle on December 28, marking the final edition of the nationwide fitness movement for calendar year 2025.
The year-end special edition will take place at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Salt Lake, bringing together athletes and fitness enthusiasts in a collective celebration of health, sport and active living.
Four-time Olympian and former World No. 1 archer, as well as Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Deepika Kumari, will headline the event alongside fellow Olympians and Arjuna Awardees Atanu Das, Rahul Banerjee, Bombayla Devi Laishram and Mangal Singh Champia. Joining them will be Olympian shooter Joydeep Karmakar, Arjuna Awardee Susmita Singha Roy in athletics, and Dronacharya Awardee Dr. Kuntal Roy.
Besides the Cycling drive, the event will feature a vibrant mix of cycling, fitness sessions, Zumba, rope skipping, yoga, cultural performances and public engagement activities, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the Fit India movement. Participants from across the city are expected to join the early-morning ride, reaffirming Kolkata’s growing embrace of cycling as both a fitness habit and a sustainable lifestyle choice.
Apart from Kolkata, events will simultaneously be held across 10000 locations in the length and breadth of the country, specifically across Sports Authority of India and Khelo India centres.
Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has steadily evolved into a people-driven movement, encouraging citizens to make fitness a part of their weekly routine while also promoting cleaner and greener mobility. So far, over 20 lakh people have joined in from more than 2 Lakh locations.
