Free travel for women on government buses will be introduced.  Reported by Sanchita chatterjee Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP has pledged in its election manifesto (Sankalp Patra) that, if elected to power in West Bengal, it will introduce free travel facilities for women on all state-run buses. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that, should the BJP government come to power, this service could become effective starting June 1st. This initiative has been designed with the twin objectives of empowering women and reducing commuting costs .Free travel facilities for women on government buses are already in place in several other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab.

This form-filling process—or survey—is currently being conducted by local-level BJP workers across various areas, either through door-to-door visits or via designated camps. It is not a scheme launched by the central or state government. Rather, it is a pre-election promise made by the BJP.BJP workers are facilitating the completion of these forms by visiting households directly or by setting up camps at specific locations. Under this proposed scheme, women are being informed that they will receive ₹3,000 per month. Since this is not a government-sponsored scheme, it is essential to exercise caution before divulging personal information under the pretext of filling out these forms.

   Refers to a recent decision by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to cancel the initial voting held on April 29, 2026, in the Falta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The ECI cited "severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process". Reports indicated irregularities such as EVM tampering (including black tape over buttons), unauthorized entries into polling booths, and voter intimidation.  Fresh voting for all 285 polling stations in Falta is scheduled for May 21, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
