  Historic Verdict Shocks Nation: 9 Police Get Death Penalty In a landmark judgment, a court in Madurai has sentenced nine police personnel to death in the shocking Sathankulam custodial deaths case  The victims — a father and son — died after brutal torture in police custody during the 2020 lockdown.The court called it a “rarest of rare” case, highlighting abuse of power and inhuman violence. The officers have also been ordered to pay ₹1.40 crore compensation to the victim’s family. This verdict is being seen as a strong message against custodial violence and misuse of authority in India.  Final confirmation of the death penalty will be reviewed by the High Court.   Reported by Sanchita chatterjee Mathura 10 April 2026 : A tragic boat capsize occurred in the Yamuna River in Mathura last Friday  The accident took place around 3:15 PM on Friday near Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan. A boat packed with tourists collided with a pontoon bridge (floating bridge) spanning the river and overturned. According to eyewitnesses, the boat lost control due to gusty winds. So far, 10 people have died in this accident. There were approximately 25 to 27 passengers on board, the majority of whom were from Punjab.
