   Reported by Sanchita chatterjee  kolkata World Cancer Day, observed globally on 4 February under the leadership of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), aims to raise awareness about cancer, promote prevention, and encourage collective action to reduce the global cancer burden. The theme for 2025-2027, "United by Unique," places people at the centre of care, highlighting individual stories and advocating equitable access to cancer treatment. Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute (SGCCRI), Thakurpukur, will observe World Cancer Day 2026 with a commemorative programme on 4 February 2026 at 1:30 pm at the SGCCRI Auditorium. Myanmar earthquake jolts Kolkata

  The earthquake originated in Myanmar  Reported by Sanchita chatterjee   (roughly 70 miles east of Akyab). Magnitude: Estimates range between 5.9 and 6.1 on the Richter scale.  Duration: The shaking in Kolkata lasted for about 10–15 seconds. Impact: No immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage have been confirmed in Kolkata, though residents in high-rise buildings reported seeing fans sway and furniture shake. Earlier in the day, a separate 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bangladesh at approximately 4:06 AM IST, which was also noted by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).  Are you currently in a high-rise building or looking for safety guidelines for aftershocks?
